The speed of the motor is accelerated at a series of rates DN1, DN2, DN3 until it reaches a predetermined target speed. The acceleration rate of the motor may be changed as the motor reaches intermediate target speeds N1, N2, or after a predetermined time interval. The acceleration rates may be determined after measurement of the weight of laundry in the tub.
