N-(TETRAZOL-5-YL) PROSTAGLANDIN CARBOXAMIDES

The invention provides compounds of the formula or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, wherein: A is ethylene of cis-vinylene; B is ethylene trans-vinylene; Y is hydrogen or hydroxy; G is CH2Ar, CH2OAr or CRZ(CH2)3CH3; Ar is phenyl, fluorophenyl, chlorophenyl, methylphenyl, ethylphenyl, methoxyphenyl, ethoxyphenyl, biphenyl or trifluoromethylphenyl; R is hydrogen or methyl; and Z is hydrogen or methyl. These compounds can be divided into three classes, each class having different and selective biological activities depending on the substituent in the bottom side chain. Compounds having a C-16 phenyl or substituted phenyl substituent have antiulcer activity, compounds having a C-16 phenoxy or substituted phenoxy substituent have fertility control activity and compounds having a C-15 n-pentyl, 1-methylpentyl, or 1,1-dimethylpentenyl substituent have bronchodilator or fertility control activity.
