Zusammenfassung:	A process for retarding undesirable buildup of polymeric material on the internal surfaces of reactors used in the polymerization of substantially water-insoluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer, particularly vinyl chloride monomer, and for significantly reducing the tendency of reactor contents to foam during deoxygenation of such contents prior to subsequent polymerization reactions, such process comprising introducing sulfur trioxide into the reactor in an amount sufficient to provide at least about 0.045 grams of sulfur trioxide per gallon of reactor volume.
