The system for mounting a pivoting seat on the rim of a water closet pan, uses a sole plate mounted slidably on a pivoting cam. The seat may include a cover, and pivot on two separate co-aligned axles, with the system accepting variations in axle support centres. The sole plate (3) comprises an inverted open box which sits over the cam (12), with a bracket (3b) for seat (2) axle (4) support, and a hole for a screw (16) which makes the connection to the cam (12). The screw (16) is secured by a nut (15) which may slide in the base of a 'T' section groove (14) traversing the cam; and the cam axle (13) is a friction fit in sleeve bolt (7, 17) which in turn locates in the vertical hole (6) traversing the pan rim (5).
