The acyl group may be derived from amino acids, dipeptides, tripeptides, aliphatic carboxylic acids of up to 10 carbon atoms and aromatic or cyclic carboxylic acids containing up to 10 carbon atoms. Preferred R groups are H-Gly, H-Ala, H-Ala-Gly, Acetyl-Ala-Gly, H-Tyr-Gly, H - Sar - Gly, H - Tyr - Ala - Gly, H - Ala - Tyr- Gly, Acetyl, Acryl Pivalyl and Benzoyl. The peptides may be prepared by solid phase synthesis using a chlormethylated resin. Pharmacevtical compositions comprise peptides and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and are used to inhibit secretion of growth hormone and release of thyroid stimulating hormone in mammals.
