A grinding device for, among other things, knives (1), comprising a rotatable emery grinder (2) and a relatively thereto swingable stand arm (4), which at its free end has a groove (12) for displaceably receiving and fixing the knife blade (1) during grinding. To enable reception of knife blades of different thickness and at the same time allow an upward tilting of the cutting edge of the knife on grinding the point, said groove (12) is defined by an upper and a lower branch (11'', 11''') of which at least one branch is resilient in a direction perpendicular to the stand arm (4).
