Zusammenfassung:Carbonates of formula (ClCH2)2C=N-O-CO-OR (I) (where R is 1-6C alkyl), e.g. (I; R=CH3)-, are new. Also new is a process for controlling the growth of sulphate-reducing bacteria which comprises contacting the bacteria with an effective amount of (I) or of 1,3-dichloroacetone oxime acetate (II) or 1,3-dichloroacetone oxime propionate (III). (I) are antimicrobials active against fungi and bacteria; thus MIC's of (If R = Me) against Aspergillus niger, Penicillium italicum, E. coli and Staph. aureas are 0.25, 0.25, 50 and 25 ppm, respectively. (I), as well as (II) and (III) are particularly useful as bactericides against sulphate-reducing anaerobic bacteria (esp. Desulfovibrio spp.) which occur esp. in industrial waters (e.g. cutting fluids, borehole sludge), causing blockages and corrosion.
