Zusammenfassung:1488557 Metal oxide-coated glass SAINTGOBAIN INDUSTRIES 30 June 1975 [2 July 1974] 27527/75 Heading ClM A metal oxide film 14 is formed on a heated glass surface 2 by projecting a gas stream, in which are entrained particles of a compound which forms the metal oxide on heating, on to the glass surface, the gas stream passing through an electric discharge 13 maintained between an electrode 6 and the glass 2, so that the particles become charged and adhere to the glass, where the heat of the glass converts the compound to the desired oxide 14. The glass 2 is preferably treated while passing from glass forming means 1 to an annealing lehr, the glass preferably being at 500-650‹ C. The gas and particles are supplied from blower 9 to sprayer 4 via pipes 8 and 7 and sieve 10 (for removing larger particles). The gas, which may be air or N 2 , is preferably heated to 100-120‹ C. The metal compound may be the acetyl acetonate of Co, Cr, Fe or Ti. The sprayer 4 preferably comprises an elongate nozzle 3 extending transversely of the glass. The sprayer 4 may be reciprocated across or along the direction of motion of the glass. The electrode 6 may be connected to a supply 5 of voltage, e.g. approx. 60,000 volts negative.
