1438670 Floating booms OCEAN SYSTEMS INC 6 July 1973 [7 July 1972] 32406/ 73 Heading E1H [Also in Division B1] A floating boom 10 for towing behind a pair of boats to remove e.g. oil from the surface of water comprises a flexible sheet 36 defining an elongate basin, a plurality of weir plates 50 each attached to a pair of floats 18, mounted on the leading edge of sheet 36, each plate 50 having an opening 20 for admitting surface liquid, oil being removed from the basin by suction via secondary weirs 62 located below secondary floats 25 or 60, pipes 28, manifolds 30 and pipes 32. Further floats 22 are located between adjacent floats 18, spacers 38 being mounted between floats 22 and 60. Water is removed from the basin via apertures 40 in the bottom thereof. The trough is terminated by end floats 16, and is connected tow lines 12 via a tension line 44 and bridle lines attached to floats 18, 22.
