Zusammenfassung:1445226 Silicon tetrachloride ELEKROSCHMELZWERK KEMPTEN GmbH 18 April 1974 [19 April 1973] 17032/74 Heading C1A Silicon tetrachloride is manufactured by reacting silicon carbide with hydrogen chloride at 400-1000‹ C. in the presence of cobaltous chloride and/or nickel chloride. The amount of the metallic chlorides used may be 0À1-30% by weight, calculated as anhydrous chloride relative to the total weight of silicon carbide, anhydrous chloride and any carrier material present. The metallic chloride(s) may be admixed in solid form with silicon carbide or may be absorbed on to the silicon carbide from solution. An inert support impregnated with the metallic chloride(s) may be admixed with the silicon carbide. The process may be carried out using a fluidized bed reactor.
