Thus the ols may be (a) reacted with pyridine-S0 3 adduct to give the acid sulphuric acid esters and these converted to the required salts with suitable bases; or (b) converted to sulphonates, e.g. mesylates, these converted to 21-iodo compounds and these heated with H 3 P0 4 in presence of an organic base to give the 21-monophosphates which with alkali give the required salts; or (c) reacted with derivatives of halo-alkanoic acids to give 21-halo-alkanoates and these then reacted with amines NHR 3 R 4 and the products converted to acid-addition salts. The novel anti-inflammatory steroids may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 990,384 and 1,068,058.
