Zusammenfassung:	The process prepares magnesium chloride prills suitable for the electrolytic production of magnesium from a melt. Molten magnesium chloride hydrate having a moisture content corresponding to from about 3.8 to about 6.2 moles of H2O per mole of MgCl2 is converted into droplets which are solidified to form prills. The prills are dehydrated to the desired low-moisture magnesium chloride or substantially anhydrous magnesium chloride.
