The invention relates to a device for lifting a container and tilting it through an angle of more than 90 degree, in order to be able to tip the contents of the container out of the container. The device is provided with a frame and with a sliding piece which is provided with coupling members and is coupled to a tilting piece which can pivot, with respect to the frame, about a pivot axis which extends substantially horizontally. An adjustment cylinder is arranged between the sliding piece and the frame, with the aid of which cylinder the sliding piece can be moved upwards with respect to the tilting piece from a first position, which is suitable for coupling to a container positioned on the ground, to a second position, and can then pivot together with the tilting piece.
