Substituted or unsubstituted morpholines are prepared by a process which comprises a first stage wherein a hydrochloride of an aminoalcohol of the general formula wherein R is H, -CH 3 , -C 2 H 5 , -C 4 H 9 , -C 6 H 5 or -C 2 H 4 OH; and R1 is H or -CH 3 , is cyclized by heating in the presence of water and hydrochloric acid to obtain morpholine hydrochloride, and a second stage wherein the morpholine hydrochloride obtained in the first stage is reacted with an appropriate quantity of the corresponding amino-alcohol, forming a new amino-alcohol hydrochloride which is recycled to the first stage, and obtaining the morpholine by distillation.
