A multi-start outside thread on the adjustable stay part (6) works with the inside thread on the adjuster sleeve (10) and the strut part (6) has a guide surface (22) in the line of the main strut to bear on an allocated surface on the other strut part (5), thus preventing its rotation when the sleeve (10) is twisted round. Both parts of the strut (5,6) have cylindrical guide surfaces (21,22) on their respective end parts (17,20). The lower strut part (6) is adjustable and the fixed part (5) has an end shoulder (18) fitting into an annular groove (14) in the sleeve (10). The relative movement of the two strut-parts is limited by a bolt (26) which stands normal to the main strut length to reach into an annular guide (27) in the other end part (17) and bear against the end flank of this groove (27) in the end setting of the locking bolt (26). In the other end setting, a surface (20') on the end (20) of strut part (6) bears on surface (17") on strut part (5).
