Zusammenfassung:An epsilon polymorph form of hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane is is made either by a first method in which hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane of any polymorph form is mixed in a premix including 20% to 40% by weight of a polyglycidyl azide and 60% to 80% by weight of at least one trinitrate of a triol monomer containing 3 to 12 carbon atoms; the mixture is subjected to at least one temperature cycle of heating to between 40{C and 60{C and then to between 10{C and 30{C; and then the constituents of the premix are removed by washing with an organic solvent; or by a second method in which a saturated solution of hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane of any polymorph form in an acetone/toluene mixture is seeded with hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane of epsilon form, and then the solution is concentrated by evaporation of the acetone. The epsilon hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane is useful as an explosive or oxidizer charge in pyrotechnic compositions.
