The smoking article includes a shell (50) defining an interior space, a consumable substance (46) within the interior space, a heat source (42) effective to increase the temperature of at least a portion of the shell (50), and a label (20) attached to at least a portion of the shell (50). The label (20) includes a base film (24), a cover film (28), and a temperature dependent material (30) disposed between the base film (24) and the cover film (28). The temperature dependent material (30) is configured to transition between a first appearance and a second appearance responsive to the increase of the temperature of at least a portion of the shell (50).
