The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a glass substrate (1) for a magnetic disk that enables cleaning that provides a high level of cleanliness to be carried out without compromising a smooth surface roughness obtained through precision polishing as much as possible. According to the present invention, cleaning processing is performed on a plurality of glass substrates (1) containing at least one component of sodium and potassium in a glass component and having a main surface (11) polished into a mirror-finished surface by using a cleaning liquid containing an alkaline agent that is free of sodium and potassium, and maintaining a condition in which a total concentration of sodium ions and potassium ions in the cleaning liquid is 4.00 x 10?3 moi/L or less.
