The present invention aims to provide an isoprene oligomer and polyisoprene whose molecular backbone is modified. The present invention also aims to provide a rubber composition containing the isoprene oligomer and/or the polyisoprene, as well as a pneumatic tire including a tire component (e.g. tread or sidewall) formed from the rubber composition. The present invention relates to an isoprene oligomer synthesized from an allylic diphosphate represented by the formula (X) below and a compound represented by the formula (Y) below. In the formula (X), n represents an integer of 1 to 10. In the formula (Y), R represents a group other than methyl.
