Zusammenfassung: | The invention relates to an electrolytic cell comprising planar anodes and cathodes which are separated from each other by means of separators, are disposed in a cell trough or in several electrode frames that are braced together, and are electrically connected in a monopolar or bipolar manner. The inventive electrolytic cell is characterized in that the cathodes and/or anodes are configured as multilayer expanded metal electrodes that are composed of at least two expanded metal layers which are in contact with each other via internal resistance paths while being penetrated by the electrolyte solutions in a longitudinal direction. Also disclosed is the use of said electrolytic cell for the cathodic reduction or anodic oxidation of organic or inorganic compounds.
