The chiral piperazine-2-carboxylic acid derivatives of the formula (I) are key intermediates for the preparation of fused heteroaryl dihydro pyrimidines which are useful for the treatment and prophylaxis of hepatitis B virus infections. La invención se refiere a un proceso novedoso para la preparación de un ácido piperazin-2-carboxílico quiral o de una sal de este de la fórmula (I). (ver Fórmula) Los derivados de ácido piperazin-2-carboxílico quiral de la fórmula (I) son intermediarios clave para la preparación de dihidropirimidinas de heteroarilo fusionadas que son útiles para el tratamiento y la profilaxis de infecciones por virus de la hepatitis B.
