USE OF THE ETHANOL EXTRACT OF HELIOPSIS LONGIPES AND AFFININE, ITS MAJOR ALMIDE, FOR TREATING ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

The present invention discloses the method to obtain the ethanolic extract of the roots of Heliopsis Longipes and to purify affinine, its major alkamide, as well as their use as an antihypertensive agent for treating cardiovascular diseases, including high blood pressure. The antihypertensive effect of affinin involves a decrease in endothelial dysfunction and an increase in nitric oxide levels. Both induce an antihypertensive effect like that of captopril, one of the first-line drugs in the treatment of hypertension. La presente invención describe el método para obtener el extracto etanólico de las raíces de Heliopsis longipes y para purificar la afinina, su alcamida mayoritaria; así como su uso como agentes antihipertensivos para el tratamiento de enfermedades cardiovasculares, incluyendo la hipertensión arterial. El efecto antihipertensivo de la afinina involucra una disminución de la disfunción endotelial y un incremento en los niveles de óxido nítrico. Tanto el extracto etanólico como la afinina, inducen un efecto antihipertensivo similar al del captopril, uno de los fármacos de primera línea en el tratamiento de la hipertensión.
