USE OF AN ANTIBIOTIC PEPTIDE FROM VENOMS OF THE SCORPION CENTRUROIDES SUFFUSUS SUFFUSUS AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS OBTAINED FROM COMMERCIAL ANTIBIOTICS

The present invention relates to a peptide named Css54 (SEQ ID NO: 1), which comprises antibiotic activity against a range of microorganisms, 25 amino acids and a molecular weight of 2870.4 Daltons, and was isolated and purified from the venom of the scorpion Centruroides suffusus suffusus. The peptide of the invention may also be obtained by other means such as chemical synthesis or by a recombinant DNA technology. The Css54 peptide (SEQ ID NO: 1) is characterized by an alpha-linear secondary structure, which differs from the structure of other peptides, such as those having a beta sheet structure with disulfide bridges, similar to that of the beta-defensin group. The present invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising said peptide and optionally, a mixture thereof with commercial antibiotics such as kanamycin, streptomycin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide or Rifampicin. La presente invención se refiere a un péptido denominado Css54 (SEQ ID NO: 1), con actividad antibiótica contra un cierto grupo de microorganismos, conteniendo 25 aminoácidos y con un peso molecular de 2,870.4 Daltones, que fue aislado y purificado a partir del veneno del alacrán Centruroides suffusus suffusus. Dicho péptido también puede ser obtenido por otros medios como síntesis química, o bien mediante la técnica del ADN recombinante. El péptido Css54 (SEQ ID NO: 1) es de estructura secundaria alfa-lineal, la cual difiere de la estructura de otros péptidos, como los que presentan un estructura de hojas betas con puentes disulfuro, como del grupo de las betadefensinas. La presente invención también se refiere a composiciones farmacéuticas obtenidas que comprenden dicho péptido y opcionalmente en combinación con antibióticos comerciales como la Kanamicina, Estreptomicina, Isoniazida, Pirazinamida o la Rifampicina.
