Isoindole derivatives of formula (I) and their salts are new: R1, R2 = (a) H and the other is OH or 1-4C alkoxy; or (b) both groups are H; or (c) R1+R2 together form =O; R3, R4 = (a) H and the other is OH or 1-4C alkoxy; or (b) both groups are H, or (c) R3+R4 together form =O; R8 = H, OH, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy; R6 = a group of formula (i) or (ii); R9, R10 = H or a glycosidically bound sugar; R5 = a bond to the C9 position of (i) When R6 = (i) or H; and R7 = H or a bond to the C9 position of (i) when R6 =(i); or R5, R7 = H; A = one or more amino acids, where the N atom in the isoindole ring is identical to the N-terminal amino acid nitrogen; and n = 1-12. Provided that A is not Glu when n = 1, R1+R2 together form =O, R3, R4, R7-R9 = H, R6 = (i) and R5 is a bond to C9 on (i). An Independent claim is included for preparation of (I).
