The apparatus and method automatically cuts off the electric power supplied for the circuits of the camera while closing a lens cap if a time has elapsed without using the camera. The apparatus comprises: a switch part(10) including a power control switch for initiating an operation of the camera, an encoder switch driven according to the state of the camera, and an operation switch operating the camera; a micro controller(20) generating a signal for cutting off the power and closing the lens cap; a power supply controller(30) cutting off the power according to the signal of the micro controller(20); a motor driver(40); a shutter driver(50); a distance sensor(60); a flash driver(70).
