Zusammenfassung:	Acetyl erythromycin stearates of formula (I) are prepd.. Erythromycin base is treated with an acetyl halide in an organic solvent in the presence of an acid acceptor and the ester formed is not isolated but is converted to the stearate by treatment with stearic acid. The acetylation is preferably effected in the presence of an alkali or alkaline earth metal carbonate or acid carbonate, at about 40 deg.C. The solvent is preferably ethyl acetate. (I) are useful as antibiotics.
