Zusammenfassung:Metacrylic acid (MAA) contg. maleic acid and citraconic acid [obtd. by catalytic oxidn. of 4C compds. (e.g. isobutylene, tbutanol) with oxygen-contg. gas is purified by contact with basic anion-exchange resin. The purificn. method comprises e.g. (i) filling a column (20mmX30cm) with anion-exchange resin(Amberlyst A 21, 50 CC), (ii) passing 10%(wt.) MAA-MeOH soln. at the space velocity of 1L/1L hr to minimize MAA concn. in the passed soln. and (iii) passing MAA (99.5 wt.%) contg. 620ppm of maleic acid and 450ppm of citraconic acid at the space velocity of 3L/L hr. Less than 1ppm of maleic acid and citraconic acid are contained in the purified MAA.
