Zusammenfassung:The process and plant include a porous substrate or sheet which is coated on at least one surface by a granule layer which resists and repels oil while being permeable to, and absorbing water. Layer is an aq. gel insol. in water, and does not prevent the substrate from being porous to water, but retains the oil in water flowing through layer and the substrate. Layer is pref. located in a tank so oily water can flow in alternate directions through the layer and the tank is pref. placed between two flotation chambers so oil can be removed by flotation both before and after passing through the layer. Although there is no limit on the type of gel, many of the examples use polymer gels.
