Zusammenfassung:Barium ferrite microcrystalline powders of formula BaOn(Fel-mMm)2O3 (where M is Co, Ti, Ni, Mn, Cu, Zn, In, Ge, and/or Nb, m is 0-0.2, and n is 5.4-6.0) are prepared by adding a first soln. contg. 0.01 N alkali, Ba ions, Fe(III) ions and opt. M ions to a second soln. contg. the balance of the composition before heating the mixt. to 150-300oC at a const. volume. The resulting hexagonal ppts. is separated and baked at 700-1000oC to give the desired power of particle size up to 0.5 microns. Method produces a powder with a narrow particle size distribution suitable for use in magnetic recording tape.
