Method and Apparatus for Adaptive Coding of Intra Mode Based on Block Position

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for adaptive coding of an intra mode based on a block position to improve video quality. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a video decoding device determines the type of the current block on the basis of the location of the current block and generates a most probable mode (MPM) list including MPM candidates. The video decoding device determines redundant prediction modes among the MPM candidates according to the type of the current block. The video decoding device determines a representative mode among the redundant prediction modes and removes the redundant prediction modes except for the determined representative mode to reconstruct the MPM list. The video decoding device decodes an MPM index of the current block from a bitstream and uses the MPM index to determine an intra prediction mode of the current block from the reconstructed MPM list. 블록 위치에 기초하는 인트라 모드의 적응적 코딩방법과 장치를 개시한다. 본 실시예에서, 영상 복호화 장치는 현재블록의 위치에 기초하여 현재블록의 종류(type)를 결정하고, MPM(Most Probable Mode) 후보들을 포함하는 MPM 리스트를 생성한다. 영상 복호화 장치는 현재블록의 종류에 따라 MPM 후보들 중 중복(redundant) 예측모드들을 결정한다. 영상 복호화 장치는 중복 예측모드들 중 대표 모드(representative mode)를 결정하고, 결정된 대표 모드를 제외한 중복 예측모드들을 제거하여 MPM 리스트를 재구성한다. 영상 복호화 장치는 비트스트림으로부터 현재블록의 MPM 인덱스를 복호화하고, MPM 인덱스를 이용하여 재구성된 MPM 리스트로부터 현재블록의 인트라 예측모드를 결정한다.
