The present invention involves the identification of the components of essential oil extracted from the flowers of Kerria japonica f. pleniflora (Witte) Rehder. This essential oil has been found to stimulate the proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes and promote the synthesis of type I and IV collagen. Additionally, the essential oil induces concentration-dependent sprout-out growth of a keratinocyte-based in vitro artificial skin model, leading to skin tissue regeneration and exhibiting anti-wrinkle activity by enhancing skin elasticity.
