APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING ENGINE OF HYBRID VEHICLE

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling an engine of a hybrid vehicle. The apparatus according to the present invention comprises: an environmental information collection unit for collecting the traveling environment information of a vehicle; a determination unit for comparing the collected traveling environment information with preset reference information and determining whether the collected traveling environment information satisfies a preset condition; a setting unit for setting a reference coolant temperature using the collected traveling environment information and changing the reference coolant temperature depending on the traveling environment information when the collected traveling environment information satisfies the preset condition; and an engine control unit for preventing the engine from being turned on by heating and air-conditioning control of the vehicle when the collected traveling environment information satisfies the preset condition and a coolant temperature among the collected traveling environment information is lower than the changed reference coolant temperature.
