Zusammenfassung:	In the present invention, provided is a method for producing polyphenylene oxide, by which a separate separation and purification process for ortho-cresol produced after an alkylation reaction of phenol is unnecessary to reduce energy costs, and moreover, polyphenylene oxide with excellent processability can be produced in excellent yield under mild oxidative coupling reaction conditions. 본 발명에서는, 페놀에 대한 알킬화 반응 후 생성되는 오르쏘-크레졸에 대한 별도의 분리 정제 공정이 불필요하여 에너지 비용을 절감할 수 있고, 또 온화한 산화 커플링 반응 조건에서 가공성이 우수한 폴리페닐렌 옥사이드를 우수한 수득율로 제조할 수 있는 제조방법이 제공된다.
