Zusammenfassung: | The present disclosure relates to a communication technique and a system for converging, with an IoT technology, a 5G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate after a 4G system. The present disclosure is applicable to intelligent services (e.g., smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, health care, digital education, retail, security, and safety related services, etc.) based on 5G communication technologies and IoT-related technologies. The present disclosure relates to an operation between an SMF (session management function) and a UPF (user plane function) of a 5G core network (5GC), and relates to a method of providing a bidirectional PFD to a UPF in a PFD management procedure. According to the present invention, since only one of an uplink PFD or a downlink PFD may be provided to the UPF, it is possible to prevent transmission and reception of redundant information and solve the problem of limiting the size of messages which can be transmitted and received between the SMF and the UPF. According to the present invention, a method of a first network entity performing SMF in a communication system comprises the steps of: acquiring a first filter for a first direction relevant to an application and a second filter for a second direction; confirming whether the first filter is a bidirectional filter based on results of comparing the first and second filters; when the first filter is a bidirectional filter, confirming whether a second network entity performing UPF supports a function of acquiring the second filter based on the first filter; and when the second network entity support the function, transmitting the first filter and a message containing information indicating that the first filter is the bidirectional filter to the second network entity.
