Zusammenfassung:	The present disclosure relates to a massage device which provides a mental massage utilizing facial recognition, and a method of operating the massage device. The method comprises the steps of: acquiring a first image of the face of a user sitting on the massage device by using an imaging unit; analyzing the first image on the basis of a facial expression analysis algorithm to obtain intensity information on a plurality of emotions revealed on the face; selecting massage mode information to be provided to the user on the basis of first emotion information corresponding to the largest value among the intensity information on the emotions and second emotion information corresponding to the second largest value thereamong; and providing a massage to the user on the basis of the selected massage mode information. Negative emotions are changed to be positive. 본 개시는 멘탈 마사지를 제공하는 마사지 장치의 동작 방법 및 마사지 장치에 관한 것으로써, 촬영부를 이용하여 마사지 장치에 앉은 사용자의 얼굴의 제 1 영상을 획득하는 단계, 얼굴 표정 분석 알고리즘에 기초하여 제 1 영상을 분석하여 얼굴에 드러난 복수의 감정들에 대한 강도 정보를 획득하는 단계, 복수의 감정들에 대한 강도 정보 중 가장 큰 값에 대응되는 제 1 감정 정보 및 두번째로 큰 값에 대응되는 제 2 감정 정보에 기초하여 사용자에게 제공할 마사지 모드 정보를 선택하는 단계 및 선택된 마사지 모드 정보에 기초하여 사용자에게 마사지를 제공하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
