Method and apparatus for recognizing auxiliary traffic sign among traffic sign

Provided is an auxiliary sign recognition method, which comprises the steps of: selecting a plurality of regions of interest from an obtained image; generating a gray scale image corresponding to the image of the selected plurality of regions of interest; deriving the histogram distribution for each of the plurality of regions of interest using gray scale values of each pixel in the gray scale image; selecting one of the plurality of regions of interest as an auxiliary sign region using the histogram distribution of the plurality of regions of interest; and recognizing contents displayed on the selected auxiliary sign region. 보조표지판 인식 방법은 상기 획득된 영상에서 복수의 관심영역을 선정하는 단계, 상기 선정된 복수의 관심영역의 이미지에 대응하는 그레이 스케일 이미지를 생성하는 단계, 상기 그레이 스케일 이미지에서 각 픽셀의 그레이 스케일 값들을 이용하여 상기 복수의 관심영역에 대해 히스토그램 분포를 각각 도출하는 단계, 상기 복수의 관심영역의 히스토그램 분포를 이용하여 상기 복수의 관심영역 중 하나를 보조표지판 영역으로 선정하는 단계, 그리고 상기 선정된 보조표지판 영역에 표시된 내용을 인식하는 단계를 포함한다.
