METHOD FOR DETECTING SYMBOL BASED ON MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD AND RECEIVER PERFORMING THE SAME

Provided is a maximum likelihood (ML) detection method, comprising: a step (a) of dividing a (n-1)-level symbol by (n)-level subset for M symbols of a signal received by a receiver; a step (b) of selecting any one of a subset among the (n)-level subsets; a step (c) of using a decision variable of (n-1)-level subset to determine a position of a central point symbol of the (n)-level subset; a step (d) of shifting the symbol of the selected (n)-level subset by the center point symbol of the (n)-level subset to determine a decision variable of the (n)-level subset; a step (e) of increasing the number (n) of the level by one to repeatedly perform the step (a) to the step (d) until the position of the center point symbol of the (N)-level subset is determined; and a step (f) of determining a symbol at a position added from the position of the central symbol of an 1-level subset and the position of the center symbol of an (N)-level subset as a solution of the ML detection. According to the present invention, less complex and rapid operation of the ML detection method can be made, and the same detection performance as that of a conventional method can be maintained.
