DATA INTERFACE APPARATUS AND METHOD, IMAGE DISPLAY SYSTEM USING THE SAME, AND DRIVING METHOD THEREOF

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for interfacing data to transmit four color data without increasing a data transfer bandwidth by using a three color data format, an image display system using the same, and a driving method thereof. According to the present invention, the method comprises: a step of mapping one among three or four color data to a three color transfer format; a step of mapping white data among the four color data to a position of one color data having a minimum value (zero) among the remaining three color data; a step of indicating a three color mode for the three color data or a four color mode for the four color data, and at the same time, additionally mapping at least one timing signal and mode/color information indicating the color data to which the white data is mapped in the four color mode, to the three color transfer format, so as to transfer the completely mapped three color transfer format; and a step of extracting the three or four color data from the transferred three color transfer format dependent on the mode/color information to output the extracted data. 본 발명은 데이터 전송 밴드폭 증가없이 4색 데이터를 3색용 데이터 포맷을 이용하여 전송할 수 있는 데이터 인터페이스 장치 및 방법과, 그를 이용한 영상 표시 시스템 및 그 구동 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명은 3색 데이터 또는 4색 데이터 중 어느 하나를 3색 전송 포맷에 맵핑한다. 본 발명은 4색 데이터를 3색 전송 포맷에 맵핑할 때, 4색 데이터 중 W 데이터를 나머지 3색 컬러 데이터 중 최소값(0)인 어느 하나의 컬러 데이터의 위치에 맵핑한다. 또한, 본 발명은 3색 데이터를 위한 3색 모드 또는 4색 데이터를 위한 4색 모드를 지시함과 아울러 4색 모드에서 W 데이터가 맵핑된 컬러 데이터를 지시하는 모드/컬러 정보와, 적어도 하나의 타이밍 신호를 3색 전송 포맷에 각각 추가로 맵핑하여, 맵핑 완료된 3색 전송 포맷을 전송한다. 본 발명은 전송된 3색 전송 포맷으로부터 모드/컬러 정보에 따라 3색 데이터 또는 4색 데이터를 추출하여 출력한다.
