The present invention relates to the method and the apparatus for providing a data service based on a position which comprise the following steps: verifying a position area where a terminal is located; transmitting discount coupon guide information to the terminal based on whether the terminal exhausts a preset data limit or not; and providing a data discount service based on information on coupon usage or coupon purchase corresponding to the discount coupon guide information. 위치 기반의 데이터 서비스 제공방법 및 장치를 개시한다. 단말기가 위치한 위치영역을 확인하고, 위치영역의 네트워크 트래픽 상태 및 단말기의 기 설정된 데이터 한도 소진 여부에 근거하여 단말기로 할인쿠폰 안내정보를 전송하고, 할인쿠폰 안내정보에 대응하는 쿠폰 사용 또는 쿠폰 구매에 대한 정보에 근거하여 데이터 할인 서비스를 제공하는 위치 기반의 데이터 서비스 제공방법 및 장치에 관한 것이다.
