AN APPARATUS FOR SCALING A RESOLUTION USING AN IMAGE PATCH AND METHOD FOR USING IT

According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for scaling resolution of an image, comprises: an input unit for receiving an original image; an interpolation unit for performing resolution scaling and interpolation processes on the original image to obtain an interpolated unit image; a patch dictionary unit for gradationally degrading the original image, extracting one or more image patches from each original image which is gradationally degraded, and classifying the image patches and related information corresponded thereto to store the same; a patch comparison selecting unit for obtaining a first image patch from the interpolated unit image, and selecting a second image patch indexed from the patch dictionary unit in response to the first image patch; and a restoration unit for composing a restored image patch based on the first and second image patches to restore image quality of the interpolated unit image. 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 장치는, 영상의 해상도 스케일링 장치에 있어서, 원본 영상을 수신하는 입력부; 상기 원본 영상에 대해, 해상도 스케일링 및 보간을 수행하여 보간된 단위 영상을 획득하는 보간부; 상기 원본 영상을 단계적으로 열화시키고, 상기 단계적으로 열화된 각각의 원본 영상들로부터 하나 이상의 이미지 패치를 추출하며, 상기 하나 이상의 이미지 패치 및 이에 대응되는 관련 정보를 분류화 하여 저장하는 패치 사전부; 상기 보간된 단위 영상으로부터 제1 이미지 패치를 획득하고, 상기 제1 이미지 패치에 대응하여, 상기 패치 사전부로부터 색인되는 제2 이미지 패치를 선택하는 패치 비교 선택부; 및 상기 보간된 단위 영상의 화질을 복원하기 위해, 상기 제1 이미지 패치 및 상기 제2 이미지 패치에 기초하여, 복원된 이미지 패치를 합성하는 복원부를 포함한다.
