Zusammenfassung:	Disclosed is a method for keeping security and providing convenience to a user by variously setting a security level of an electronic device based on the state of the electronic device, and an electronic device realizing the same. According to the present invention, a method for operating the electronic device includes steps of determining the state of the electronic device by using sensing information input by at least one sensor to detect physical characteristics; setting a security level by using the determined state of the electronic device; and displaying a lock image corresponding to the determined security level when a screen is turned on.
