WIRE ELECTRODE FOR ELECTRO DISCHARGE MACHINING AND THESAME METHODE

Provided are an electrode wire for electric discharge processing which generates a small quantity of fine powder during electric discharge processing and enhances surface roughness of a workpiece at the time of electric discharge processing, and a method for manufacturing the same. The method for manufacturing the electrode wire for electric discharge processing comprises the steps of: supplying a wire of a first diameter which is made of a first metal containing copper as a core wire; plating the core wire with a second metal; making the core wire plated with the second metal into a fine wire of a second diameter and forming corrugations of a predetermined pattern on the surface of the fine wire of the second diameter; and thermally treating to form a first alloy layer having at least one selected from a α+β′ phase, a β phase and β′ phase formed on a boundary part between the core wire and the second metal by interdiffusion of the core wire and the second metal and a second alloy layer having a γ phase or/and a ε phase formed on the outer face of the first alloy layer by diffusion of the first metal in the direction of the second metal.
