Zusammenfassung:	Disclosed is a method of breaking up pig iron in a blast furnace, whereby tasks associated with breaking up pig iron can be carried out more efficiently by rationalizing the drilling of holes. Specifically disclosed is a method of breaking up pig iron in a blast furnace in a manner such that the pig iron (5) remaining in a blast furnace is broken up by means of blasting, wherein a number of vertically-oriented blast holes (7) larger than the number of blast holes used during a single blast are drilled in the pig iron, protective members (9) for protecting the blast holes from damage are provided in the blast holes, the protective members are removed from the blast holes that are to be filled with explosives (G) prior to each blast, and thereafter the pig iron is blasted by means of explosives filled into the blast holes.
