Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: Method and apparatus for detecting pedestrian vehicle impact are provided to reduce injury to pedestrian by lifting up the rear part of a hood in times of collision. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(50) for detecting pedestrian vehicle(52) impact comprises a plurality of sensors(54,62,64,66), a metric determining device, a controller ECU(80), and an impact reducing device(84). The sensors are mounted near the front of the vehicle. Each sensor supplies related signals indicating an impact event. The metric determining device determines displacement and impact energy metric values for each of the sensor signals. The controller determines if a pedestrian impact has occurred in response to the determined metric values and provides an actuation control signal.
