Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: A method for purifying a 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid-containing methacrylic acid stream is provided to remove undesirable impurities from crude methacrylic acids and to prepare the methacrylic acid product of high purity suitable for the manufacture of a specific methacrylic acid polymer. CONSTITUTION: A method for purifying a 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid-containing methacrylic acid stream comprises the steps of: forming a mixture by adding acid components to the methacrylic acid stream; decomposing 2-hydroxyisobutyric acids within the methacrylic acid stream with a decomposed product by heating the mixture; and product the decomposed product from the methacrylic acid stream.
