Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: A local dimming drive method for a liquid crystal display device for driving an LED backlight unit and an apparatus thereof are provided to separate a color region and an achromatic color region from each other by analyzing achromatic color pixels of each block. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit(40) divides a dimming block into a plurality of dimming blocks equipped with a plurality of color light emitting diodes and drives the dimming blocks. The backlight unit drives the light emitting diodes according to the colors. A local dimming driver(10) divides a frame into a plurality of blocks corresponding to the dimming blocks of the backlight unit. The local dimming driver determines a local dimming value of each color in the corresponding block and a local dimming value of the luminance in the corresponding block. A backlight driver(22) drives the backlight unit according to each dimming block and each color.
