PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device is provided to control the voltage variation due to current consumption by reducing current consumption due to a pre-charge operation during a pre-charge operation mode. CONSTITUTION: A bit line equalizing part equalizes a bit line pair in response to a bit line equalizing signal. A bit line free charge part(421) pre-charges the bit line pair during the activation range of the pre-charge control signal. A pre-charge voltage supply part(450) offers a pre-charge voltage to a bit line pre-charge part. A pre-charge control signal is activated later than the activation time of the bit line equalizing signal by receiving the pre-charge voltage. A bit line equalizing part(411,412) comprises an equalizing transistor controlled with the bit line equalizing signal.
