Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: A metal-containing magnesium oxide powder is provided to ensure particle diameter and crystallinity similar to magnesium oxide powder which does not contain metal, and to enable cathode luminescence within a wavelength area 200~700 nm range excited by electron beams. CONSTITUTION: A metal-containing magnesium oxide powder for a plasma display panel comprises metal element 0.01~5 weight%. The metal element is one or more selected from Na, K, Rb, Cs, Be, Sr, Ba, Y, Al, Gd, Er, Si, Ga, Ti, Zr, V, Ta. A method for manufacturing the metal-containing magnesium oxide powder comprises the steps of: adding 0.01~5 weight% metal element or metal element and halogen element; and performing thermal process at 600~1400 °C in an oxidation atmosphere.
