METHOD FOR REDUCING ODOR IN PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS

PURPOSE: A personal care composition containing 2-methyl-4-isothiozoline-3-one and hydroquinone radical scavenger is provided to reduce perfume in the personal care composition. CONSTITUTION: A personal care composition contains 25-200 ppm of 2-methyl-4-isothiazoline-3-one; and 50-2000 ppm of at least one hydroquinone radical scavenger. The composition additionally contains unsaturated aldehyde, unsaturated ester, unsaturated ketone or unsaturated alcohol. The composition is used in the form of cream, lotion, or ointment. The hydroquinone radical scavenger is 2,5-di-t-butyl-1,4-hydroquinone; 2-t-butyl-1,4-hydroquinone; 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxytoluen; 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methoxyphenol; t-butyl-4-hydroxyanisol; 2,5-bis-(2,4-dimethylphenyl)hydroquinone; propyl 3,4,5-trihyroxybenzoate; 2-(1,1-dimethylethyl)1,4-benzendiol; 4-t-butyl catechol; 4-butyl resorcinol; 4-hydroxy anisol; 4(1-phenylethyl)resorcinol; 2,5-di-t-pentyl-1,4-hydroquinone; pyrocatechol; or 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene.
