A motor control device and a method for detecting insulation degradation of a motor are provided to prevent the damage of a semiconductor switch even if the current of the motor is leaked by including a insulation degradation detecting unit. A rectifier circuit(3) is connected to an AC power supply through a circuit breaker(2). A rectifier circuit comprises a smoothed condenser(C) between an anode direct current output part(4A) and a cathode direct current output part(4B). The insulation degradation detecting unit(6) detects the deterioration of insulation resistance of a motor driven by an inverter circuit.
